For the third year in a row, the Midwest Art Conservation Center is pleased to offer a Fellowship in Native American Collections Care. This is a 12-week, full-time position in Minneapolis with a stipend of $11,000 and includes some regional travel. Start and end dates are flexible, to occur in summer or fall of 2020.
The Fellow will work with MACC’s Director of Preventive Conservation and conservators on a variety of collections care activities including art handling, general assessment, conservation documentation, collection database use, and technical research and writing. The Fellow will gain first-hand experience of evaluation techniques and approaches through participation in off-site general collection assessments. They will see real-time examples of a variety of institutions developing effective collections policies and long range conservation plans while addressing common challenges such as space constraints, under staffing, and micro-budgets. The Fellow will be immersed in the activities of the art conservation center and will have the opportunity to converse with each of the conservators about their work. The goals of the program include contributing specialized skills and resources toward a tribal community and advancing the skills of an individual for an on-going or potential career in collections stewardship.
A successful applicant will demonstrate strong ties to a tribal community, as well as interest in a career in collections stewardship. Applications from Upper Midwest/Great Lakes/Northern Plains Native American community members; candidates with a college degree completed or in-progress; and mid-career professionals are particularly encouraged.
Application Deadline: April 31
